Archive

Editions Milano presents Archive.

A re-edition project born from the research into design archives, debuting with Vico Magistretti and Gio Ponti. Editions Milano introduces a project dedicated to the re-edition of objects from recent design history, alongside its contemporary collection of home accessories designed by some of today’s most talented international designers, including Patricia Urquiola and Nendo. Archive is a research-driven endeavour that expands Editions Milano’s perspective on design and its continuity over time — a constant dialogue between different eras of Italian design.

The project stems from the desire to bring back into circulation objects that, while belonging to significant moments in design culture, are no longer available. Identified through extensive archival research, these projects are re-edited with rigour and in full respect of their original drawings. These re-editions aim to reintroduce objects whose design relevance remains strikingly current.

Archive debuts with Magellano, the vase designed in 1971 by Vico Magistretti. A distinctly “Magistrettian” object in which geometry, domestic function and understated elegance coexist. Produced in Italy in brass with a palladium finish, Magellano returns to production after decades, faithfully preserving its original proportions and design — a project whose enduring relevance was recognized with the Wallpaper* Best Designs Award 2026.
With Archive, Editions Milano opens a new field of research in domestic design, running in parallel with its contemporary collection. It approaches twentieth-century design not as a repertoire to be celebrated, but as a living body of work to be explored — a space where projects can be rediscovered and brought into dialogue with the present.

“Archive is not a category but an editorial language,” says Alberto Pellini, Creative Director of Editions Milano. “From time to time, we will publish an object from the Archive, bringing back projects that continue to resonate within the contemporary home. Editions Milano aims to act as a publisher of domestic design, guided by a clear cultural narrative”.

Following the re-edition of Magistretti, Archive continues with the re-edition of a project by another central figure of twentieth-century Italian design and architecture, Gio Ponti.
