Versilia is part of the Tuscany coast where sea and culture blend in a single soul. Versilia is renowned for its beautiful landscapes and for its centuries-old tradition of art and crafts related to the processing of marble. A few kilometers from the sea of Versilia, rises the Apuan Alps mountain chain, world famous for its marble quarries. These harsh mountains with their blue and white silhouette and vertiginous rock walls supplied Michelangelo with his best marble. In fact, marble from the Apuane mountains was used by the great artist to sculpt his masterpieces and Michelangelo himself worked in the quarries for some time. The Apuan Alps are a designated Unesco Global Geopark which Unesco itself calls “The most beautiful marble mountains of the world”.
