Art & Design

Versilia Tris is a new version of the Versilia collection of vases crafted through an elaborate inlay technique that brings together three different marbles: Emperador Dark, Bardiglio Nuvolato and Arabescato.

More than a vase, Versilia Tris is a work of design and Italian craftsmanship. Each piece is handmade through a precise process of cutting, joining and finishing, where three stones are brought together to create a single continuous form. The result is a unique object in which the natural beauty of marble meets the skill of our expert artisans.

The name Versilia is a tribute to the place where the vase was born. Known for its marble quarries, art ateliers, historic villas and elegant Riviera atmosphere, Versilia represents a refined idea of Italian living, deeply connected to landscape, material culture and craftsmanship.

Each piece is one of a kind, shaped by the natural variations of marble and by the care of Italian manufacture. Design Jacopo Simonetti, made in Italy.

Introducing Clubhouse Duetto: Italian marble, carved with the rhythm of a good match.

The Duetto collection is entirely hand-crafted in Italy. Each piece — vase, box, tray — is cut from two-tone black and white marbles into clean and architectural volumes.

It’s design in its most pure form: solid material and precise cutting. The kind of object that isn’t just placed on a shelf, but lived with as good design always should be.

After the match, before the tea. A worn leather bag left by the door, a wooden racket resting against the wall, the quiet stripes of the clubhouse floor still holding the afternoon light. Duetto moves into that same world.

Designed by Jacopo Simonetti and hand-crafted in Italy from two-tone marble, each piece is cut into clean, architectural geometries — striped like the room it’s sitting in, solid like the objects that last a lifetime in one.

June 15 2026 When matter changes scale. More than a bowl. Show or hide the article

Art & Design

The size of an object is not merely a question of dimensions. Changing scale means altering the way an object is perceived and the role it assumes within a space. In contemporary design, scale is often used as a tool to challenge established categories. An object can move beyond its immediate function and acquire a more ambiguous presence. In such cases, what matters is not so much the object’s use, but its ability to define a space and generate a particular perceptual experience.

Andrea Ghisoni’s Atlantico collection fits within this reflection. Through essential forms and monolithic volumes, the project investigates the expressive potential of stone, focusing on the tension between presence and subtraction. Marble, with its veining and natural variations, is not simply a material to be shaped, but an active component of the design itself. The introduction of the Atlantico bowl XL further expands this research. The increase in scale accentuates the object’s monumental dimension and makes the dialogue between geometric form and natural matter even more evident. The marble is not concealed; on the contrary, its presence becomes the focal point of the experience.

When matter changes scale. More than a bowl.
June 15 2026 Marble and its material multiplicity. Discover Stone Tobacco Brown. Show or hide the article

Art & Design

We are accustomed to thinking of marble as a cold material, associating it with the solidity of stone. Yet some marbles seem to escape this established image, drawing closer to entirely different material worlds. Tobacco Brown marble belongs to this category. Quarried in Ontario, Canada, it is distinguished by its rich brown background, crossed by light veining and subtle golden accents. Its surface recalls wood—not only through its colour, but also through the sense of depth created by the natural stratifications running through the stone.

While retaining the density and permanence of marble, Tobacco Brown evokes the organic qualities of wood and its ability to convey warmth and familiarity. The result is a material that appears to belong simultaneously to two distinct worlds. The new version of the Stone Tobacco Brown vase emerges from this very ambiguity. The project’s essential, sculptural form leaves room for the surface and its natural variations to take centre stage, turning colour into a defining element. Each piece becomes unique and unrepeatable, where veining, shades and golden highlights reveal the rich complexity of the marble.

June 15 2026 A new room for design. Introducing Fold bathroom. Show or hide the article

Art & Design

Among all domestic spaces, the bathroom is perhaps the most intimate: a place dedicated to the everyday gestures and rituals of care that shape our daily lives. It is a transitional space, suspended between the outside world and the self, between the time devoted to others and the time reserved for oneself. In recent years, the bathroom has gradually moved beyond its purely functional role to become a space worthy of the same attention given to the other rooms of the home.

It is within this context that Fold bathroom takes shape. The collection brings Editions Milano’s design language into one of the most personal areas of the home through a series of objects conceived to accompany everyday rituals. Dispensers, containers, trays and baskets become tools through which materiality engages with the domestic experience. Crafted from Travertino Classico and Arabescato marble, the pieces celebrate the presence of natural stone, transforming everyday objects into discreet yet meaningful presences. Design does not intervene to alter the gesture, but rather to accompany it, adding care and significance to actions repeated day after day. With Fold bagno, Editions Milano extends its design research into a space where design meets the dimension of care.

April 14 2026 Centerville: Underwater Weaving x Jason Miller for Editions Milano. Show or hide the article

Art & Design

Centerville is a capsule collection developed by Underwater Weaving and Jason Miller for Editions Milano for Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026. The project emerges from the meeting of different practices and sensibilities, combining Underwater Weaving’s handwoven straw craft with Jason Miller’s contemporary design approach. The result is a series of objects that bring together seemingly opposing materials: the solidity of marble and the lightness of straw. The compositions overturn traditional structural logics, placing weight on the outside and redefining the balance between the parts. It is a body of work built on a dialogue between opposites, finding in contrast its own form of equilibrium.

“Centerville is a personal experiment for us. Our work has been displayed together and sometimes even mashed-up together, but this is our first true collaboration. The work is a dialogue between our extremes. The heavy, grounded permanence of Jason’s marble designs and the weightless, open weave of the baskets. Together the compositions subvert the very nature of a vessel by placing the heavy elements on the outside, anchoring the woven structure rather than being held by it. In a way, the materials perfectly mirror how we operate as a couple—the meeting of masculine and feminine, balancing gravity with air to find a grounded center. Editions Milano is the perfect partner for this project and we are thrilled to be debuting this work in Milan, a city where we spent some of our earliest days together“. Erin and Jason.

April 14 2026 At Salone del Mobile.Milano, Editions Milano presents Teatro by Gio Ponti. Show or hide the article

Art & Design

At the heart of the presentation for Salone del Mobile.Milano is Archive, Editions Milano project dedicated to the re-edition of objects drawn from the history of twentieth-century Italian design. Following Magellano, the vase designed by Vico Magistretti, the journey continues with Teatro, the only basket Gio Ponti designed during the course of his career. A signed and numbered re-edition of the basket designed by Gio Ponti in the late 1940s. Teatro expresses one of the fundamental principles of Ponti’s design thinking: the centrality of perception. While a basket is traditionally conceived as a closed container, Teatro takes the form of an open, permeable structure, conceived to reveal rather than hide. Its form is immediately legible, turning the object into a kind of staging. As its name suggests, Teatro displays more than it contains, and in its essentiality makes visible the relationship between structure, function and form. The Teatro basket is crafted in brass with a palladium finish, in Italy, like the entire Editions Milano Collection.

“The structure of the basket is essential. Teatro is a protagonist,” says Salvatore Licitra, curator of the Gio Ponti Archives, speaking with Editions Milano. “Ponti believed that what is essential is destined to endure: when an object clearly expresses its concept, in its nakedness, it never ages.”

“Archive is not a category but an editorial language,” says Alberto Pellini, Creative Director of Editions Milano. “From time to time, we will publish an object from the Archive, bringing back projects that continue to resonate within the contemporary home. Editions Milano aims to act as a publisher of domestic design, guided by a clear cultural narrative”.

October 31 2025 Introducing Magellano, design Vico Magistretti (1971) Show or hide the article

Art & Design

We’re proud to present Magellano, a re-edition of the vase designed by Vico Magistretti in 1971. Simple and perfect in its spherical form, Magellano embodies Magistretti’s pursuit of simplicity and balance. Composed of two identical hemispheres that come together to form a single sphere, the vase reveals a handcrafted surface featuring a dense network of meridians and parallels, resembling a small, domestic globe.

Crafted from brass with a special palladium finish, Magellano is entirely produced in Italy by master artisans. The meticulous craftsmanship and brilliant finish of the coating ensure its durability and aesthetic purity, core values of Editions Milano’s approach, where innovation and tradition converge in a contemporary language. For Magistretti, simplicity was a goal, not a starting point: “Simplicity is the most difficult thing in the world.” The Magellano vase embodies this idea through its simultaneously rigorous and poetic construction. Its shape stems from a conceptual insight, consistent with another of the architect’s thoughts: “It’s always the conceptual detail that captures people’s attention.” Each vase bears on its base the engraved signature of Vico Magistretti, a mark of authenticity and a tribute to its original creator.

Vico Magistretti (1920–2006) was a leading figure in Italian design and architecture. Trained at the Politecnico di Milano, he has worked with companies that have shaped the history of design, and his works are exhibited in major museums worldwide. A free and curious spirit, Magistretti adored Japan and its culture. The Magellano vase embraces flowers in the tradition of ikebana, transforming the act of arranging them into a gesture of balance and contemplation.

With the re-edition of Magellano, we continue our journey of honouring the great masters of design, both contemporary and historical, reaffirming the importance of preserving and revitalizing a culture that speaks to material and aesthetics.

June 3 2025 Introducing Eras, a collection born from time. Show or hide the article

Art & Design

Eras is a new capsule collection designed by American designer Jason Miller and crafted in Italy from Bardiglio Nuvolato marble.

This collection contemplates the passage of time and its effect on materials — a stone worn smooth by centuries of use, a surface shaped not only by design but also by life itself. Eras invites us to rethink our relationship with objects: design is meant to evolve, to bear the marks of our human era. Consisting of a sculptural bowl and a side table where polished marble blocks are combined with the warm integrity of cedar wood.

“It takes eras of decay, fire, cold, and pressure for marble to form. Yet we take it from the ground, make it into something and expect it to stay in that perfect new form forever. This collections contemplates what certain designs would look like after thousands of years of use – the human era of its existence. Like a stone bouncing down a riverbed for a thousand years. It is a celebration of use. After all design is meant to be used, not just looked at”. Jason Miller

The collection currently includes a side table and a bowl and is entirely made in Italy.

Art & Design

Atlantico is a new collection conceived by Italian designer Andrea Ghisoni, designed to revolutionize the role of an object in the space. Each vase and centerpiece is meticulously carved from a single block of marble, transforming raw stone into pure form. Through a process of subtraction, matter is partially removed to reveal essential, monolithic shapes—objects that blur the line between function and sculpture. The result is a series of one-of-a-kind pieces that command presence and redefine the role of everyday objects within a space. With their sculptural strength and timeless flair, these objects do more than decorate—they shape the environment around them.

May 7 2025 New collection: Vasi Contrapposti, design Elisa Ossino Show or hide the article

Art & Design

Italian architect and designer Elisa Ossino designs a project that tastes of poetry: Vasi Contrapposti. The aim is to establish a dialogue between opposites, where each element complements and enhances the other, celebrating diversity and harmony. Both vases are crafted from locally sourced stones such as Pietra Serena and Travertino, carefully chosen for their inherent qualities and tactile appeal.  The craftsmanship honors the material, showcasing its unique qualities through contrasting finishes: smooth for the geometric vase, rough for the organic one.

Vasi Contrapposti is not just a pair of vases, but a journey into the contrast between order and spontaneity, humanity and nature.

The first vase, Obelus, crafted from Pietra Serena, conveys a clean and rational aesthetic, while the second vase, Lapis,  made of a more vibrant and rough stone such as Travertino, evokes the vitality of nature.

Delving for the first time into the world of ceramic, we’re proud to present  Oxymoron, a collection of vases designed by Patricia Urquiola. Each vase is a one-of-a-kind piece in ceramic made by hand by skilled artisans who reproduce the smoothing action of water and wind on the rock, on the earth, on life.

Urquiola’s goal for this project is to pay homage to nature and to its passage. The passing of time is witnessed by evocative traces  that are combined with a brightly enameled finish. Each vase – available in four colors, green, light blue, pink and light yellow – is handcrafted half of glazed ceramic while the other half features a texture crossed by gently carved cavities. It takes several steps and processes to get to the final result: a contemporary vase with a worn out by time flair. There is no identical vase to the other, just like any other natural expression of the earth. The challenging treatment behind this project forced Editions Milano’s artisans to push beyond the boundaries of typical ceramic manufacturing and to create and mix new craft techniques.

Oxymoron is now available for pre-order! Buy your favorite color from those available – pink, light blue, green and light yellow – to make sure you get it before others.

March 31 2022 Introducing Circle, design Alessandra Facchinetti Show or hide the article

Art & Design

Circle is a collection of objects for serving tea and coffee, designed by world celebrated fashion designer Alessandra Facchinetti and made in Italy in porcelain. Inspired by the form of a perfect circle, the collection comprises a teapot, a sugar bowl, a coffee cup, a tea cup and a mug, all of which conform to a similar shape of a narrow pedestal base and angular body and feature a delicate circular handle. Each piece is completely white, though the exterior is matte biscuit porcelain, while the interior is glazed resulting in a glossy finish.
The unconventional design of Circle forced our artisans to push beyond the boundaries of typical porcelain manufacturing as perfect geometric shapes are difficult to render with such a natural material. Circle, as for all our production, is entirely made in Italy with historical artisanal techniques and premium local raw materials.

Hotel Il Sereno is a 5-star hotel designed by Patricia Urquiola, opened in 2016 on the shores of the charming Lombard lake. The hotel strikes a contemporary note among the region’s traditional buildings, the majority of which are made of natural stone with terra-cotta-colored titles. Hotel Il Sereno represents an understated, modern kind of luxury, one that is most apparent in the high quality of the materials used.

The design of the recently inaugurated 150-square-metre penthouse Suite has a strong sense of place and use of natural materials from the region. Interiors feature a blend of bespoke pieces, contemporary objects and design icons which dialogue with each other.

Versilia is part of the Tuscany coast where sea and culture blend in a single soul. Versilia is renowned for its beautiful landscapes and for its centuries-old tradition of art and crafts related to the processing of marble. A few kilometers from the sea of Versilia, rises the Apuan Alps mountain chain, world famous for its marble quarries. These harsh mountains with their blue and white silhouette and vertiginous rock walls supplied Michelangelo with his best marble. In fact, marble from the Apuane mountains was used by the great artist to sculpt his masterpieces and Michelangelo himself worked in the quarries for some time. The Apuan Alps are a designated Unesco Global Geopark which Unesco itself calls “The most beautiful marble mountains of the world”.

All our marble editions – designed by super talented designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Nendo, david/nicolas and Bethan Gray – start from here.

April 9 2020 A conversation on design orthodoxy, Credenza. Show or hide the article

Art & Design

Is it possible to believe in design? Does anyone dedicate its own life to design? Does design have priests and devotes? And on the contrary, can we deny the doctrine of design? Can we be heretical towards design? Let’s stop here. There is no need to evoke the theology of design to describe Credenza, by Editions Milano.

Let’s just say that sometimes we need to take a step to the side to move forward, to change our way, or simply to follow a personal and unpredictable path. Editions Milano, through Credenza, reconciles the orthodoxy of Patricia Urquiola’s contemporary design and the heresy of Federico Pepe’s art as a form of communication.

The story is all about pieces of furniture that can be displayed close to a wall or in the centre of a room. Their main function is not only to decorate or to store, but to create a presence within the space. Their design is technical while the raw materials are fully traditional. Credenza is a creative dialog on design. It’s a constant exchange among several actors that lead to the conversation that follows, held in Milan in Patricia Urquiola’s Studio.

By Paolo Ferrarini

Paolo Ferrarini: How did this project start? What was the creative glint?

Patricia Urquiola: I think all started because of a curiosity. Glass is a material that has always fascinated Alberto, especially in its handcrafted and local dimension.

Alberto Pellini, Editions Milano: For more than two years I have dreamt about creating something with the windows of the churches. I had this fixed idea. I wanted to transform them into an object and I shared it with Federico with whom we work since quite a long time on various projects. We talked about it at length, without knowing where it would have lead us.

Patricia Urquiola: Was it such a vague thought?

Alberto Pellini: Yes, it was! Federico and I often meet just to share ideas and vibes. But one day I said to myself “I must do it!” So I called Federico and I told him: “Let’s do it! How about sharing it with Patricia?” Federico replied: “Let’s go, let’s talk about it with her!”  I was looking for the perfect match. And I always have fun putting people together. When I came here to convince Patricia I brought with me just the pictures of the Sainte Chapelle and a piece of stained glass. The result I was longing for was the same.

Patricia Urquiola: When I hear about glass windows I think about Cologne’s Cathedral and its amazing contemporary work. Gerhard Richter’s big glass windows are impressive, all entirely based on the repetition of a square pattern. His works have deeply inspired me. He’s a master in all his projects. But if I go to a trattoria and I see glass doors, I think of those who work in this field and of the low quality level they sometimes have to deal with. Making the right match takes a long time. With people and with materials as well. Ideas need the right maturation time, I think this is really important. Sometimes it looks as if these ideas come up quickly, instinctively, though good ideas always require time. Sometimes they just live with you, they remain still in you for a long time.

Alberto Pellini: I then started to look for the artisans who produce glass windows for the churches, as I was ready to make this dream come true. I wanted an antique hand crafted technique. I contacted an artisan and he immediately came to introduce himself. He couldn’t wait to work on a different project and his excitement made me understand that our direction was the right one.

Patricia Urquiola: In any field, people who work with an artisan attitude have a great open mindedness towards what is new and different. They are never scared.

Alberto Pellini: Do you know what is our luck? We are free. Today we may think of glass and tomorrow we may fantasize about ceramic. This way we are credible and not credible at the same time. And when an idea comes up, it strikes us.

Paolo Ferrarini: And how did the design process begin? Was it a choral project? How did you face the creative phase? How did you split the assignment?

Patricia Urquiola: We met and we started sharing opinions on furniture. We immediately thought I would design the structure and Federico its graphic customization and a part of the art direction as well. We decided to develop all together, as when we built my Studio’s website. While preparing its launch as well as the presentation of my monograph, he sent me hundreds of drawings for more than one month and I replied drawing on his sketches. We experienced this communication via images, words or pages of books. We got along very well and we understood that between us there was big respect and fun. We also have in common the passion for Duchamp’s The Large Glass with his “Broyeuse de Chocolat”, made of two large plates of glass mounted in a sturdy frame.

Federico Pepe: I started sending to Patricia all I had, as I wanted her to start experimenting. I didn’t know how she was used to work so I shared with a her a huge amount of work so that she could find something useful to start from.

Patricia Urquiola: He?s just like that, and it?s great. Some of the graphics he had already produced, others he modified for the project.  And all at once, the creative sparkle came, and it was beautiful. We spoke about cupboards, but then I thought we should concentrate on smaller pieces of furniture, somehow more ?kind? but always with a strong presence… maybe a small credenza (a cabinet). From that moment on we really enjoyed ourselves, because a credenza is quite a precious object, at the same time container and contained. As it always happens, this kind of work brings you to a multitude of results. Of course it probably won?t happen that all these micro-collections will effectively come to life. First you create, then you choose, and at the end you will present only one or two amongst all of them you have imagined.  But they remain open stories, maybe next year a more figurative work will appear. This is why the project was named Credenza (Italian word meaning both a cabinet and one’s belief) and Miscredenza (unbelief) because at a certain point we identified this object, named credenza in the furnishing industry, that immediately found a link with our will to believe (credere in Italian). To believe in the ancient techniques that today are abandoned, to believe in a world that has been long forgotten. Speaking of belief, we naturally came to the concept of unbelief. The stained glass window is polychrome and is linked to the concept of light. The idea of transferring it to a small object that lives inside a house, rather than imaging it for something where the natural light would shine trough form the outside (which would have been the most logical thing to do), is an act of an unbeliever. We wanted to work on it as if it had its own light, like a little animal. We liked the idea to give it its own inner light.

Paolo Ferrarini: Normally stained glass windows tell stories. But your graphics look abstract. Is there a story behind? Do they tell a story?

Federico Pepe: At the beginning I thought about using the images as in the classical stained glass window concept, only instead on the Saints, Jesus and Mary, I would have put criminals and prostitutes? the unbelievers. Of course this would have created a strong impact, with reactions difficult to imagine, and my feeling was that this kind of approach would have made it difficult to develop the concept. With abstract graphics the pieces are beautiful, they are clean.

Alberto Pellini: If you take the classical stained glass technique, the one with faces and stories, it belongs to the Church. I wanted to take Federico’s art, the one of graphics and patterns, and bring it on the pieces of furniture created by Patricia.

Federico Pepe: But this remains a commercial project. Patricia, you are one of the most famous designers today, the products you imagine are bought and sold worldwide. Their appeal is undeniable. Alberto?s idea was to take a very traditional artisanal skill, and use it on a product that could be appreciated and purchased.

Patricia Urquiola: Actually, when you work on these small, artisanal collections, not following the logics of industrial production, you already know that the project will be a kind of manifesto of what you believe in. I took the whole project, this matter of belief and unbelief, with a certain dose of irony. I wanted to keep all our different points of view and mix them up. We thought if would have been interesting to show the belief (Credenza) and it?s exact opposite, the unbelief. We really played with this concept, as we are on two completely different sides, Federico is the belief, and I’m the unbelief. Or maybe I?m the belief, as I?m really attached to the product, and he?s the unbelief that creates chaos, why not? In my work, I spend a great deal of time to try and understand, along with the companies, the correct techniques to be adopted and the use of innovative, contemporary materials. Working with industrial companies, I have tried to understand how their machinery works, in order to maximize their technical possibilities, or to find new ones. But in this case, we are doing another kind of research. We keep ourselves attached to a traditional artisanal technique, but at the end the object is a little “unbelieving” in a way that makes it modern.

Paolo Ferrarini: From a function point of view, the rounded back part of the vertical cabinet is quite an “unbeliever”.

Patricia Urquiola: The back part is round, and we also created a structure that makes the cabinet narrower towards this round back.  t is a very simple piece of furniture in metal sheet with a metal structure. We designed it as something that is born as a bi-dimensional drawing of a tri-dimensional work? it?s a game, there is unbelief! Then there is the screen, it?s a funny piece.
