INTRODUCING MAGELLANO
RE-EDITION OF THE VASE DESIGNED BY VICO MAGISTRETTI IN 1971
Proudly presenting Magellano, a re-edition of the vase designed by Vico Magistretti in 1971.
Simple and perfect in its spherical form, Magellano embodies Magistretti’s pursuit of simplicity and balance. Composed of two identical hemispheres that come together to form a single sphere, the vase reveals a handcrafted surface featuring a dense network of meridians and parallels, resembling a small, domestic globe.
Crafted from brass with a special palladium finish, Magellano is entirely produced in Italy by master artisans. The meticulous craftsmanship and brilliant finish of the coating ensure its durability and aesthetic purity, core values of Editions Milano’s approach, where innovation and tradition converge in a contemporary language.
For Magistretti, simplicity was a goal, not a starting point: “Simplicity is the most difficult thing in the world.” The Magellano vase embodies this idea through its simultaneously rigorous and poetic construction. Its shape stems from a conceptual insight, consistent with another of the architect’s thoughts: “It’s always the conceptual detail that captures people’s attention.” Each vase bears on its base the engraved signature of Vico Magistretti, a mark of authenticity and a tribute to its original creator.
Vico Magistretti (1920–2006) was a leading figure in Italian design and architecture. Trained at the Politecnico di Milan, he has worked with companies that have shaped the history of design, and his works are exhibited in major museums worldwide. A free and curious spirit, Magistretti adored Japan and its culture. The Magellano vase embraces flowers in the tradition of ikebana, transforming the act of arranging them into a gesture of balance and contemplation.
As Magistretti often said, “Look at familiar things with fresh eyes.” In Magellano, this vision is embodied in an object that transforms everyday life into contemplation, restoring the wonder of the act of looking.
Magellano is available in 2 sizes: D15 cm and D25 cm.
